Check out Guernica Magazine’s special feature on LagosPhoto - described as “a new annual photography festival aimed at ‘representing African sensibilities’” and showcasing the Africa of “industry and intellect.”

As LagosPhoto founder Azu Nwagbogu tells in this interview, “[Photography is] the fastest growing art tool on the continent, and it’s perhaps the easiest to gain access to”, allowing Africans to finally shift the lens on African issues from their own perspective.

“We need to tell the full gamut of the stories, represent the stories that are important to us, our culture, our lifestyle, our existence in the world, our space on the planet, and the way that we see ourselves. And that’s why it’s important to develop photographers and photography: because it’s the fastest growing art tool on the continent, and it’s perhaps the easiest to gain access to.”
