Makmende as a mock GQ Cover Model

Makmende as a mock GQ Cover Model

Cult culture (no pun intended) has never made immediate sense to me. Following a figure, film or other iconic symbol obsessively to the point of worship - or perfect recitation of quotes and scripted comedic timing - isn’t exactly a hobby I’ve ever related to. But I can see the allure of suave, outspoken, just downright funky heroes in genres that seem kinda wacky anyway. Apparently, these clever fellows from Kenya have caught on, brilliantly so, to a whole new cult following. And thanks to YouTube, this one’s happening at Hyperspeed.  Spotted via Ghettobassquake, Kenyan craze, Makmende has hit new proportions. CNN broke the news to a more mainstream audience, but cool kids in the know already hit up Makmende videos as soon as the creators, Just a Band (a name that cleverly captures the surprise at their own success) put them up. The beat is amazing, and maybe this is a parody that’s more Kenyan in feel than anything else, but like it’s namesake - Makmende - it will Make Your Day.
